Chaplin (v.Verdi) wint Grand Prix Mexico City
Martin Fuchs en de Verdi-zoon Chaplin wonnen eind januari al de Grote Prijs van CSI5* Zürich en gisteravond wisten ze op fenomenale wijze de Grand Prix van GCT Mexico City op hun naam te schrijven.
De Zwitserse ruiter kocht Chaplin (Verdi uit Jaltha B elite sport-spr prest van Concorde, fokker G. Knoop uit Slootdorp) vorig jaar zomer van Leon Thijssen, nadat hij onder Jelmer Hoekstra al goede resultaten had geboekt. Martin Fuchs kocht hem zonder te proberen en had gelijk een rotsvast vertrouwen in de Verdi-zoon. Gisteravond liet het duo zien tot hele grote dingen in staat te zijn. In de eerste outdoor 5*-GP waaraan Chaplin aan de start verscheen, bleek hij direct onverslaanbaar. “Chaplin heeft alles gegeven en ik ben heel gelukkig met deze overwinning. Hij is van nature al heel snel dus ik besloot alle risico’s te nemen, ook omdat we geduchte concurrentie hadden in de barrage”, vertelt de 25-jarige ruiter. Hij verdiende met deze zege 175.000 euro en begint daarmee op een mooie voorsprong op de nieuwe ranglijst van de Longines Global Champions Tour.

The Verdi TN – offspring Chaplin was bred out of Concorde mare Jaltha B elite sport-spr prest. In the summer of 2016 the super talent was purchased by Swiss rider Martin Fuchs, after success at the highest level with Jelmer Hoekstra and Leon Thijssen. Martin Fuchs bought Chaplin without a try-out, he immediately had tremendous faith in the horse. In September Chaplin contributed to the fifth title of Swiss National Champion in Fuchs’ career. In January of 2017 the pair won the 5* Grand Prix of Zurich and in april they won the Longines Global Champions Tour 5* Grand Prix of Mexico City. A phenomenal performance by the young duo, that clearly indicates the massive future ahead of them. The 25-year-old rider commented: “My horse Chaplin gave his heart for me and I’m very happy. The competition was immense, but my horse is also very fast and I took all the risks.” The victory earned him 175.000 dollars and a great start ahead in the new rankings of the Longines Global Champions Tour.
